A day from Reykjavik
Day trips from Reykjavik
Geysers, waterfalls, black-sand beaches, glacier lagoons and hot springs: almost everything that makes Iceland famous can be seen on day trips from Reykjavik, by hire car or on an organised tour. And from September to March, clear nights are for going out to hunt for the northern lights.

Frequently asked questions
What day trips can you take from Reykjavik?
The Golden Circle, the Blue Lagoon and the South Coast as far as Vík are the classic day trips; Snæfellsnes, Skaftafell and the Jökulsárlón lagoon make for much longer days.
Can you visit Jökulsárlón in a day from Reykjavik?
Yes, there are day tours, but it means many hours on the road; if you have time, it is better to spend a night on the South Coast and see it at leisure.
Can you see the northern lights from Reykjavik?
Yes, from September to March, on clear nights with solar activity. Night tours leave the city for dark areas; from the centre they are harder to see because of light pollution.
